In China, many minorities plant tea and love tea, and they even live on tea. De’ang nationality is not fond of drinking tea, but good at planting and making tea, who considers tea as own ancestor.
According to the legend, the earliest grandmother of De’ang nationality was tea fairy. Long time ago, there was a tea tree in the heaven wanting to grow up on earth. Da’ran (the god of wisdom) tested the tree and made fierce wind blow off one hundred and two leaves. The singular number becomes 51 sagacious and competent boys, while the even number becomes 51 beautiful and charming girls. When they desired to march toward on earth, they were obstructed and thwarted by devils for heaps of times. Through arduous struggle, they finally won victory. Nevertheless, when they lost themselves in the joy of victory, a gust of fierce wind blew 50 boys and 50 girls back to the heaven. Only the most clever little brother and the most beautiful little sister got married on earth, who were namely the ancestors of De’ang nationality: Da’leng and Ya’leng.
It can be seen that tea has divinity, which was once totem of De’ang nationality, and the object being worshiped by human beings.
